Inspiring Story - Why Me?

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have whole and lasting life. John 3:16, Message.

Andrew Parker sat with his head buried in his hands. “The forgiveness you talk about may forgive little kids for stealing cookies or pickpockets for lifting wallets, but God's grace can't include me.”

“Of course it does,” the pastor replied. “The text says, 'All who believe.' That includes everyone.”

“You don't know what I did.” The 60 year old man's voice broke with emotion. “During the Vietnam War I became separated from my unit and came upon a chapel in the jungle. A dozen or so old men, women, and children were inside praying.”

The man hesitated. “A few days earlier my best friend had died from a hand grenade thrown into a crowded bus. When I saw those Vietnamese praying, I flew into a rage and opened fire, mowing them down in less than a minute. Can your God forgive that?”

The preacher nodded. “All means all, Andrew. If God can't forgive your sin, He can't forgive anyone's. He's done His part; now it's up to you.”

I'm glad God's grace includes Andrew. And I'm so very thankful He forgives me, too. How about you?
